It was a
warm summer afternoon. Mama Bear stretched out lazily in the shade of
the old tree. She motioned for her wee cub, Fannye, to join her. Fannye
lay down on the cool grass and closed her eyes. Soon Mama was snoring
gently. Fannye twisted and turned, but she could not get comfortable. Finally one eye popped open. She peeked at Mama and saw that she was sleeping peaceably. Fannye opened her other eye and turned to look across the meadow. The wildflowers nodded gently in the wind. The air shimmered in the heat. Fannye wanted to get out there and run and jump in the tall grass. Fannye got to her feet very quietly. She took a few brave steps into the meadow. She remembered what Mama always said: "stop, look and listen". Fannye looked at her sleeping Mama. She looked across the meadow. She listened to the gurgling sound of water in the nearby stream. She heard the bees buzzing. She took a careful step and then another, until she was in the center of the meadow. Fannye looked back at her sleeping Mama and felt so brave and grownup. was at that very moment that it happened. Something landed right on her head.
The "something" had feet. She could feel feet move across her
fur. Oh, my, what should she do? Should she stand ever so still and hope
that "the thing" would go away? Should she run as fast as she
could back to her Mama's arms? What should she do? A big tear puddled at
the bottom of each eye as Fannye desperately tried to decide what to do. Just then she felt strong arms grab her and lift her up into the air. It was Mama. Mama would keep her safe. Mama and little Fannye returned to the shade of the old tree. Mama held Fannye close in her arms and told the wee cub a story about a gentle creature called a butterfly. Fannye listened ever so carefully, but it wasn't long before her eyes closed and she slept safe and secure in her Mama's arms. |
Fannye is about four inches tall. She is hand sewn from German mohair. She has glass eyes and ultra suede pads. She is stuffed with poly-fil and glass beads. She is fully jointed .She can be removed from her base and the butterfly can be removed from her head. $62 plus shipping. Sold orders only.
