You have found The Secret Room!

Who doesn’t enjoy a secret room? Unfortunately most homes do not have such a thing. The old house that I grew up in did not have a secret room, or if it did, it has kept the secret well.

But there was a secret place, well hidden, that my mother finally discovered. We had been living in the house for over 10 years when my mother stumbled across the "secret" in her bedroom. There was a small cupboard in her room that backed up to the chimney. There were shelves in this little narrow cupboard. One day when she was cleaning she noticed a loose floor board. She got a hammer and started to investigate. The boards lifted away, as a small door, to reveal a shallow compartment built under the floor. Do you suppose it was built to house valuables? Perhaps one of the owners of the house found it difficult to get to a bank? The house was built in the 1860’s so who knows???? Interesting to think about anyway.

Our son, Doug, has written a story based on the above small secret in our family home. What fun, and yet so sad are the secrets hidden away, waiting to be found, and yet never explained.

Lock of Hair

One morning, as she passed along her way, on a day like any other day, she opened a cupboard to get a towel. And after pushing her cat out of the way, she touched a panel in just such a way to open a secret vault.

Standing open mouthed , with nothing to say, and the cat yowling, racing to get away, she got a light to peer into the wall. Perhaps she was thinking: Today is my lucky day!!!

And, to her amazement, she was left wondering why........

On a day like any other day, just passing along the way:

Someone had hidden, tied with a ribbon, a lock of hair!!!!!!!!
